Should You Propose to Your Boyfriend?

You’ve watched all your friends get married and you’re still waiting for your boyfriend to propose. While more women are taking control of their situations by popping the question, should YOU do it? It really boils down to the type of girl you are and the type of relationship you have with your boyfriend.

So which girl are you?

  1. The one who shuddered in horror when you saw the title of this article,
  2. The one who is still uncertain about everything, even her relationship OR
  3. The modern woman who embraces the 21st century with open arms?

Proposing to your boyfriend will require a lot of guts on your part; there’s that small risk where he might say no (yes, even if you’re probably the best thing that’s happened to him). But if you fall into the third category and you’re a big believer in gender equality, why not take the reins in the future of your relationship by popping the question?

Before you jump in and start planning the whole romantic event, ask yourself the following questions about your relationship with him first:

  • Is it time to make it official?Image may be NSFW.

  • Do you know where the relationship stands?
  • Have the two of you talked about your futures together in detail?
  • Do you want the same things?
  • Will he be swept away by a romantic gesture on your part?

If there are any no’s, you probably shouldn’t do it. However, if you’re ready to plan your proposal to the man of your dreams, then we say go for it! Proposing to him might be a little different from the norm, but we’ve come up with some tips to help get you started:

Plan it according to HIS tastes
Not according to how you want your dream proposal to be. Just as you cringe at the thought of being proposed to with a cheesy flash mob, he might not like the idea of you popping the question in front of his friends and relatives.

Keep it simple
Instead of planning something elaborate, focus on the most important aspect of the proposal: your relationship and the future! This way, you’re also lessening the chances of the proposal going awry (like all those nightmarish ones featured on magazines).

Personalise it
Think about your history with your boyfriend and plan the proposal around something meaningful to the both of you. It could be the day of your anniversary or where you had your very first kiss. He’s sure to appreciate the gesture!

Just keep these 3 simple tips in mind, and you should be on your way to a great proposal in no time. Good luck!
